Working Remotely: The Benefits and Challenges.

Definition:

Working remotely simply means having to work, carry out certain tasks and duties without a physical presence. This is a new culture adopted to help foster flexible working pattern. However, there are benefits and challenges faced during this course of operation.

Benefits:

The benefits of remote working includes and not limited to;

° Attracts more top talents – Offering a remote work expands talent tools, meaning you are no longer limited to a specific geographic zone instead you can go anywhere and find specialized professionals.

° Reduce employee turnover – According to a verified report by the State of Remote work shows that remote works experience about 25% lower turnover, indicating that offering remote work is a valuable retention tool for companies.

° Improve Productivity – A study shows that workers finds it more easier to concentrate at home, i.e employees can work when they are most productive, even if that means late or early in the morning and they tend to work extra hour per week. Also save employee from dealing with long commutes.

° Cut down on costs – Remote workers reduce the amount of real estate you get.

Challenges:

° Maintaining good communication - There could be an hinderance in working remotely if there is a poor communication, or poor communication channel as a result of poor network or power supply.

° Creating a culture – Employees do enjoy the flexibility of remote working most times having fewer opportunity to develop camaraderie with colleagues. As a result some employees experience isolation, loneliness and dissatisfaction with their roles.

° Tracking employees performance - It can be hard to monitor employees performance when the team is not physically in the office, especially for jobs that requires proper engagement.

° Maintaining Security – Security could be hard to maintained in a remote setup.

However, it should be noted that these challenges could be tackled to help reduce the risks!
